This year’s competition began on February 12th 2019, where we accepted submissions in the various categories. Thereafter, a panel of judges selected the best 5 nominees from the successful submissions in each category. Voting was opened on May 7th, 2019 which culminated in the announcement of the winners on 22nd June 2019.
The Awards were started in 2012 to recognize exceptional Kenyan bloggers. Each year in January, Kenyans get a chance to submit blogs to participate in the awards. Once the submission phase is closed, selected judges, who are exceptional content creators in their respective fields go through the submitted blogs and choose the best 5 blogs from each category that will proceed to the voting phase. The blogs that garner the most votes in each category are the ones that are declared the winning blogs.
Voting was verified by SMS which began in 2017 to prevent rigging of votes. Also, we had a stipulation of one vote per person.
This year, we introduced a new category, Best Podcast which saw Amani Maranga become the first winner in that category. The total number of categories now stands at 24.
The 2019 BAKE Awards competition was sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Safaricom, Tuko.co.ke, CDI Gadgets, and Konza City.
