The Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) is a community organization that represents a group of Kenyan online content creators and that seeks to empower online content creation and improve the quality of content created on the web. The Kenyan blogosphere has come a long way.
As blogging grows in Kenya, BAKE came up with the Kenyan Blog Awards to reward bloggers who post on a regular basis, have useful content and are innovative in Kenya. The awards will be held once a year.
Every year, there will be a submission phase where the public submits the blogs they think are the best and deserve to be rewarded. There is a 2 month window for submission. Previous winners can still have their blog submitted and bloggers can submit their own blogs. There are currently 15 categories and each blog is submitted to a particular category.
Once the submission phase ends, a panel of judges comprising of bloggers and media experts are selected. The public submits a lot of blogs and it is up to these judges to go through each and pick 3 blogs for each category and put them on the nominee list.
Once the judging phase is complete, the nominee list is released and the public can begin voting. Voting is done online and it is one vote one time per category. This helps keeps the voting fair and giving a level playing field for all nominees. Voting is open for a 2 month period. Once the voting is complete, the votes are tallied and the winner is announced at a gala event.
The 2013 event will be held on the 4th of May at the Southern Sun Hotel in Westlands.
